Finding the shop
Driving instructions
To Entwhistles in Gorey
Follow the Grouville Coast Road (La Grande Route des Sablons) north towards Mont Orgueil Castle. When you reach the entrance to The Royal Jersey Golf Course, continue along the road with the golf course on your right-hand side. You will pass a Checkers Petrol Station again on the right, and the golf course becomes visible once more. At the end of the golf course there is a large gritted car park for the beach, and the shop sits close by on the seafront side of Gorey Village.
There are scenic eating spots along the beach and harbour within easy reach of the shop.
Entwhistles has built a lasting reputation in Gorey Village as one of Jersey's most dependable fish and chip shops, a place where the quality has been sustained across generations of family ownership and management. The kitchen continues to develop its menu while keeping the core tradition intact: freshly cooked fish, golden chips, and a friendly counter service that feels both familiar and refined. Regulars remember a café that has changed hands more than once, yet the character of the shop — its warm welcome and consistent standard — has remained reassuringly constant.
Finding the shop is simple, since Entwhistles sits in the heart of Gorey Village on the island's beautiful coastal stretch, close to a scattering of scenic spots for eating outdoors. Whether you are calling in on your lunch break, collecting a supper on the way home from the harbour, or arranging something for the family, the emphasis is always on food cooked fresh to order. The kitchen works quickly and attentively, which is why the shop has become a fixture of the local lunch and evening routine for islanders and visitors alike.
Alongside the well-known fish and chips, the menu offers a wider range of choices, from classic café favourites to more modern plates, with wine and bottled drinks available for those who want to linger. The interior has been modernised over the years, trading some of the old novelty features for a cleaner, more intimate space with comfortable seating and an unhurried atmosphere. It is a shop that caters for a broad audience, from families and takeaway customers to those seeking a relaxed sit-down meal near the coast.
